Case file: LIBRA (February 2025)

A presidential post, a $4 billion peak, a collapse within hours.

LIBRA: from a president's post to near zero in hours. On 14 February 2025, Argentina's president posted about a new Solana coin, $LIBRA. Hours later most of its value was gone.

The timeline, as reported.

A pump that was over before most people saw it. Reported peak above $4 billion, then a collapse of over 90% the same night. Nothing to sell into once the pool was drained.

What the analysts reported. Chainalysis, cited by Reuters, traced about $99 million withdrawn from the pool by eight wallets funded by the creator. Other firms reported $87 million to $107 million.

What the creator said. The project's co-creator said in interviews that about $100 million from the launch sat in an account he controlled, called it "a plan gone wrong" and denied a rug pull.

The red flags you could have seen. Supply reportedly concentrated in a few wallets from launch. Liquidity not locked, so it could be pulled. A celebrity post as the only reason to buy. Price up thousands of percent in minutes

Outlets reported different totals for the money that left the pool: about $87 million (Crypto Briefing), about $99 million (Reuters, citing Chainalysis) and about $107 million (Cointelegraph). The differences come from which wallets and fees each firm counted. The project's co-creator said in interviews that he held about $100 million from the launch and denied it was a rug pull. A judge in Argentina opened an investigation and class actions were filed in the United States; those were ongoing when this card was written.
