Contract address (CA): the coin's one true ID

A contract address, usually shortened to CA, is the unique identifier of a coin on Solana. Names, tickers and logos can be copied by anyone. The CA cannot, so it is the only reliable way to know which coin you are trading.

What is a contract address?

Every token on Solana has an address: a long string of letters and numbers, usually 32 to 44 characters. It is the token's identity on the blockchain. Wallets, charts and trading apps all use it to know exactly which coin you mean.

On Solana the technical name is the mint address, but traders say CA out of habit from other chains. They mean the same thing.

Why does the CA matter so much?

Anyone can launch a coin called PEPE with a frog logo. In a busy hour there may be twenty of them. Scammers copy the name of a coin that is pumping and hope you buy the wrong one.

The CA stops that. Two coins can share a name. They can never share an address. If you trade by CA, you cannot be tricked by a copy.

How do you use it safely?

A few habits keep you on the right coin.

  • Copy the CA from a trusted source: the launchpad page, the project's own post, or a chart site like DexScreener. Not a reply in a comment thread.
  • Check the first and last few characters after you paste. Lookalike addresses exist, and your eyes skip the middle.
  • Never buy from a name or ticker alone. If someone posts a coin without a CA, find it yourself before trading.
  • Be careful with links that pre-fill a trade. Confirm the address before you confirm the buy.

How MemeSim uses it

In MemeSim you paste a CA into the box at the top of Pulse and the coin page opens with the live price, market cap and liquidity. Every simulated trade is tied to that address, so your portfolio and P&L always point at the exact coin you traded, never a lookalike.

The CA and market cap lesson is a three-minute start. The CA is the coin. Trade the CA, not the name.

Questions

Where do I find a coin's CA?
On the launchpad page, the project's official post, or a chart site like DexScreener. Copy it rather than retyping it.
Can two coins have the same CA?
No. Each address is unique on Solana. That is exactly why you should trade by CA.
What if a CA I pasted shows a different name?
Trust the address, not the name. You may have copied a lookalike coin. Go back to the source and check again.
