Sniper: the bots that buy before you can
A sniper is a bot that buys a new coin in its very first block, sometimes in the same transaction as the launch. Snipers get the lowest price and sell into the traders who arrive after them.

What is a sniper?
Solana confirms transactions in blocks that arrive every few hundred milliseconds. A human cannot react that fast. A bot can. Snipers watch for new coins and send a buy the instant one appears.
The best snipers land in the launch block itself. That means they own supply before the coin has a chart, a holder list or a single real buyer.
Why do snipers matter?
On a bonding curve the first SOL in buys a large share of the supply at the lowest price. A sniper that puts 3 SOL in at launch can hold a meaningful slice of the coin.
When later buyers push the price up, the sniper sells. Their profit comes from the people who bought after them. If you buy a coin at 60% progress, assume the snipers already own their share and are waiting to exit.
Snipers also make early charts misleading. A big first candle can be bots fighting for position, not real demand.
How do you spot sniped supply?
Look at the first few transactions and the holder list.
- Several large buys in the launch block, before any social post existed.
- Top holders who bought within the first second and have not sold yet.
- Wallets that do the same thing on dozens of launches a day. Those are bots, not fans.
How does MemeSim handle this?
MemeSim does not let you snipe. Every order waits a random 1 to 3 seconds before it fills, like a real confirmation delay, and the price is re-checked at fill time. If the price moved past your slippage limit, the order fails and you still pay the priority fee.
That delay is deliberate. It teaches you to trade the way a human can, by reading the coin, not by racing bots you cannot beat.
Questions
- Can I snipe coins myself?
- Only with specialized software and a lot of SOL spent on fees. Most traders who try lose to faster bots. MemeSim does not simulate sniping.
- Are snipers the same as the dev?
- Sometimes. A dev can snipe their own launch through other wallets. Independent sniper bots also exist and compete with each other.
- Does a sniped coin always dump?
- No, but early holders with cheap supply will sell at some point. Expect it and size your buy accordingly.
